Jan 22, 2011 We recently used Rudy of tour by van for a tour of Acapulco. Our ship was two hours late but when we arrived Rudy was waiting for us with a smile. He gave us an excellent tour of his city. He provided in depth information about the sites we visited. He took us everywhere we wanted to go. He was very friendly and professional through out the tour. When I was preparing to book this tour he responded very quickly with clear information about his tours. I would definitely use his service again on my next trip to Acapulco.

We wanted to see the divers, some "local color" and a bit of upscale shopping. At some point in our scheduling process, we became aware that the ship's similar shore excursion was somewhat cheaper. Rudy negotiated with us on that issue. Although we met Rudy, we were in fact guided by Hector, who I though provided very interesting commentary. There was actually a second person who drove the van, so that he could drop us off at the various sites without wasting our time with parking, etc. We saw the mercado where the locals were all buying food, their "laundromat" (fascinating) and the slushy drink guys preparing for their days. We actually stopped at a cliffside, view home for sale on our way to the Chapel of Peace. Hector kept up a running commentary and answered our many questions. We had excellent seats in the restaurant adjacent to the cliffside divers with complimentary margaritas (in hindsight I would rather have had a slight price reduction in lieu of 2 drinks each in the middle of the day!). We shopped at a very nice jewelry store where Rudy's guests receive a discount - he was very upfront about this, which we appreciated. It was a very nice place, no one in our faces to buy at all, just customer service. It could have been a store in America. We finished at the same restaurant the other reviews cite. I thought it was quite good - not fine dining, but great for lunch with many seafood options. It is RIGHT on the beach, our table was ready, and the prices were quite reasonable (we were on our own nickel for lunch). Rudy may have an interest or an agreement with this place, but we certainly didn't have another place in mind, and it filled the bill. I might add that it was full of locals - always a good sign. We ran out of time and did not see the mural, but that was our call as we wanted solo time at the fort. Rudy is a savvy businessman who provides a good service. I recommend him as he will provide exactly what you want from a tour, and you won't have to do it with a busload of people from your cruiseship. Jan 10, 2011 We just returned from a great 15 day tour aboard the Celebrity Constellation from Ft. Lauderdale through the Panama Canal to San Diego. The best tour by far on our cruise was with Rudy Fregoso’s Tour by Van in Acapulco.

I found Rudy through recommendations on Cruise Critic and we were very pleased we did. Rudy was very prompt and courteous in setting up our reservation through e-mail. Originally it was just my wife and I, and then during our cruise two of our dinner-mates chose to join us. With just a quick e-mail off to Rudy, I was able to easily add the two additional people to our party.

Rudy himself was unavailable for our tour as he was already booked that time, but instead we had another fantastic guide, Elvira! Elvira was a great guide and we enjoyed having her show us all around the sites of Acapulco including a very interesting and picturesque walk through the Acapulco public market to get a true feel of a shopping experience in Mexico. Also as others may have mentioned, when it’s time to view the cliff divers at La Quebrada, Rudy has reserved a private terrace for viewing so we had a great experience there also.

Elvira spoke excellent English as she just recently returned from living several years in Atlanta, so she was a great guide to have. In addition she has lived in Montreal for several years, so if you’re looking for a French speaking guide, Elvira would also be a great choice for you.

Dec 24, 2010 We contacted rudi by email we had lots of help planning our day we released Turtles had a city tour and saw many amazing sights, the Market is a must please walk through its the only way to get the full experience. We also went to see the Cliff Divers Rudi got us there at the best time to get a good view. We stopped for lunch at a mexican resturant on the beach very reasonable. We did not have to do that but so glad we did. We felt safe at all times, Rudi was very informative without being boring also a great sense of humour. We did the extended tour of six hours and since the company has a policy of allowing you to include things in Acapulco that you, yourself, would like to see (in addition to the standard attractions) we did a couple of side trips which I thought was fantastic. Jose even consulted us about in which order we could see them in and arranged our lunch break around this. Talking of lunch, Jose took us to a beach-side restaurant which had good food (both local and international dishes) and reasonable prices. All in all my recommendation of Rudy's Tour by Van is 5 of of 5. As a footnote, before leaving Australia for Mexico, I got stuck trying to arrange bus tickets back to Mexico City as the major bus line's website (Estrella de Oro) did not accept non-Mexican credit cards and because my Spanish is not so good I could not book over the phone. As Rudy had been so dependable in answering my emailed questions to him about the tour, I asked if he could advise me how to buy the tickets. Not knowing me at all, Rudy volunteered to get me the tickets and purchased the two bus tickets a couple of days before my arrival using his own money. Dec 23, 2010 I travelled around Mexico before (from Australia) back in the 80′s but was told that Acapulco (just like Miami in the 80′s) was a bit run down and not worth visiting so I didn’t go.

Recently, as luck would have it, we were planning to visit Mexico City and I was looking at side-trips to places outside Mexico City. Acapulco was mentioned many times. I read how Acapulco had, in recent times, done many renovations and was now a great place to visit (just like Miami is now).

As we only had a couple of days in Acapulco I searched the web for a recommended tour. I read about Rudy’s Tour by Van in TripAdvisor and a couple of other travel websites and the reviews were very complementary.

I was not disappointed. At the start of the tour, Rudy met with us and filled us in on the tour details. As Rudy was going to be taking around another small group, we were assigned one of his other driver/tour guides, Jose, who was very knowledgable, personable and entertaining.

Photos were attached of the suggested itinerary visits and importantly photos of Rudy’s Tourist Guide ID and accreditation from the Mexican Federal Authorities. This certainly inspired confidence and we agreed the booking as well as the fee (to be paid at the end of the tour) by email.

He gave clear directions on how to find him outside the terminal and was there with our driver to meet us. Our driver Orlando spoke excellent English, was warm and friendly and an excellent tour guide. We really wanted to do the Turtle Sanctuary which was wonderful, but it did consume up most of our time because of the location. We hit horrible traffic coming back and I was getting frustrated that most of our tour time was being sucked up by traffic. Orlando, our guide reached Rudy and explained what was happening. Rudy immediately fixed things by extending out our tour time so we would still have time for dinner and see the cliff divers. Orlando was exceptional, and made sure that we hit all of the areas that were important, including taking us to a nice Taxco store for sterling silver. The wait staff in the restaurant that he recommended treated us like royalty. Rudy took what could have been a bad situation and left us with wonderful memories of Acapulco. Dec 10, 2010 We booked our tour about a month in advance and like the rest of the commenters here Rudy was very fast in responding and setting things up. He gave clear directions on how to find him outside the terminal and was there with our driver to meet us.
Our driver Orlando spoke excellent English, was warm and friendly and an excellent tour guide.
We really wanted to do the Turtle Sanctuary which was wonderful, but it did consume up most of our time because of the location. We hit horrible traffic coming back and I was getting frustrated that most of our tour time was being sucked up by traffic. Orlando, our guide reached Rudy and explained what was happening. Rudy immediately fixed things by extending out our tour time so we would still have time for dinner and see the cliff divers.
Orlando was exceptional, and made sure that we hit all of the areas that were important, including taking us to a nice Taxco store for sterling silver.
